Description
Choju-giga is a famous set of four picture scrolls, or emakimono, belonging to Kozan-ji temple in Kyoto, Japan. The Choju-giga scrolls are also referred to as Scrolls of Frolicking Animals and Scrolls of Frolicking Animals and Humans in English.
This is a reproduction of the scrolls into small size.
Vol.1 shows that rabbits, monkeys and frogs perform games and ceremonies just like human beings. This is the most famous one in the scrolls.
Vol.2 shows not only the familiar animals such as cows and dogs, but also the holy animals such as lions and tapirs.
Vol.3 shows the human games such as Go and dogfight in the first half and in the latter half, the animals like human beings shown in Vol.1.
Vol.4 shows the human ceremonies and festivals with humor in quick touch.
